Refresher Courses

PCV 1-Day Driver Refresher Course

The PCV Driver Refresher Course can be very useful to those candidates who have:-

• Passed their test some years ago but have not recently driven.
• Had a break from driving due to circumstances or health.
• Let their driving skills get slightly “rusty”.
• Maybe lost their confidence.

A qualified instructor can quickly get you back on track and help you regain those skills and confidence required to drive safely. Sometimes all that is needed is a few refresher training lessons, rather than a full blown corrective driver training course, with the peace of mind that the instructor can intervene if required.

STT offers a half-day Established Driver Refresher Course which is based on the sound principles of Continued Professional Development. For drivers employed by a Bus or Coach Operator, the course is generally tailored to meet an operator’s specific requirements and may include a corporate message but the main focus of the course is to minimize the risk of driving accidents and to improve hazard perception.

The PCV Driver Refresher Course provides an objective and informed perspective of a bus and coach driver’s ability and will identify if additional training is required. The objectives of the course are to:

• Improve and increase the general awareness of road safety.
• Reduce passenger, pedestrian and road accidents.
• Contribute to an overall reduction in insurance claims and premiums.
• Address public concerns about driving standards identified through correspondence, accident and other surveys.
• Stimulate driver awareness of driving and road safety issues and the effect these have on customer service.
• Identify and specify the driver training needs of organisations and individuals.

This course will enhance the quality and self esteem of drivers and can be used as part of an appropriate motivation scheme for driving staff.

All delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance to certify satisfactory completion of the course.

PCV 2-Day Corrective Driver Training Course

When external driver monitoring indicates driving standards are low and/or accident rates are high, STT will undertake to:-

• Identify if additional PCV Driver Training is required.
• Provide additional PCV Driver Training where training needs are identified.
• Minimize the risk of driving accidents and improve driver’s hazard perception.
• Raise awareness amongst drivers of their company’s standards.

Where a delegate has been assessed for additional PCV Training, STT are pleased to offer a PCV 2-Day Corrective Driver Training Course.

The first day is classroom based and is focused on hazard perception and awareness; numbers/costs of accidents and the individual’s attitude to driving a bus or coach. We will also cover specific aspects of passenger consideration, customer care & service, driving ability and a range of other criteria.

The second day is vehicle based and involves both driving and observation of others driving. Each delegate is assessed by the Approved STT Assessor / Trainer. Any delegate not meeting the Company Driving Standard is required to undertake a further and possible final period of assessment to reach the required standard.

This course will enhance the quality and self esteem of drivers and can be used as part of an appropriate motivation scheme for driving staff. Additional Benefits to the Operator will include:-

• A better company image.
• Reduction in insurance costs.
• Improved customer service.

All delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance to certify satisfactory completion of the course.
