NVQs
(LGV)
Driving
Goods Vehicles NVQ Level 2 (EDI)
Every day, 1.3 million people go to work without the skills they need
to do their jobs well. National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are work-related,
competence-based qualifications. They are based on national occupational
standards developed by sector skills councils and standard-setting bodies
in consultation with employers. As such, NVQs reflect the skills and knowledge
required by people working in particular industries. With help from STT,
you are now able to invest in the development of your staff giving them
the ability, confidence and motivation to deliver real bottom line benefit
for both themselves and business alike.
As
a leading Training Provider, STT has aligned itself with industry leaders
and by working in partnership with the Learning & Skills Council,
Train to Gain and the South East Essex College amongst others, our qualified
assessors and Internal Verifiers will carry out on-the-job assessments
leading to LGV Drivers gaining an NVQ Level 2 in Driving Goods Vehicles
OR similar in Distribution, Warehousing & Storage. When Driver CPC
is delivered simultaneously with an NVQ, the additional cost for CPC underpinning
is virtually zero. FREE to most candidates, completion of one of our courses
(equivalent to five GCSE’s at grade A-C) will lead to greatly enhanced
opportunities within the transport logistics industry.
The
Qualification – Driving Goods Vehicles (Level 2)
This Course is an approved course for carrying out assessments leading
to LGV drivers gaining an NVQ Level 2 in Driving Goods Vehicles. Accredited
by Education Development International (EDI), although preferable to be
already employed in the transport logistics industry, it is not necessary
to hold a licence above the basic ‘car license’ (currently
DVLA category B) in order to start working towards the qualifications.
The Level 2 Qualification is for goods vehicle drivers who can demonstrate
a level of competence in order to conduct their role effectively. This
competence is more than that required whilst driving a goods vehicle that
is laden with a typical load. Drivers must demonstrate a sufficient level
of competence to complete seven mandatory units to gain the award. The
units include demonstrating competencies in pre-driving checks (including
the use of tachograph) and monitoring the loading of goods. Additional
units give candidates the opportunity to show competence in unloading
goods vehicles and coupling and uncoupling goods vehicles if these form
part of their job.
Candidates
will cover the following areas whilst on the course:-
•
Monitoring the loading of the vehicle by others.
• Completing pre-driving preparations.
• Maintaining the safety and the security of the load, self and
property.
• Awareness of driving conditions.
• Operating the vehicle systems.
• Driving the vehicle on public roads.
• Driving the vehicle in restricted spaces.
Additional Units
• Unloading the vehicle
• Coupling and uncoupling the vehicle.
Drivers
must obtain all 7 mandatory units for a full award. The additional 2 units
do not form part of the qualification but are available to candidates
who have the opportunity to demonstrate competence in these areas.
